Salta province is home to well established and world renown wine growing regions including Yacochuya, Calchaqui Valley. The area benefits from a perfect climate for wine, strong sun and controlled irrigation directly from Andean snow melt. Cafayate is the heart of the wine region, with the sweet, White Torrontes being the signature vintage. Cachi is a lovely town that shows the cultural side of the far northwest. It's also is the best access route for the high altitude Bodegas. Red wine is at the forefront for the area including varietals such as Malbec and Bonarda. Mendoza produces what is widely considered the best malbec in the world. Even though millions in foreign investment has poured in over the last few years, the commercialization of wine tourism has not yet caught up with the newfound popularity of the area's wines. Visiting wineries in Mendoza is still an adventure. You can get up close and personal with the winemaking process. You can see, touch, and taste the grapes as they make their transformation into wine. |
